License Plates : automated short RNA nomenclature

Frequently Asked Questions

What are license Plates?

"License-plates" are labels that transcend assemblies and species. They depend solely on the fragment's genomic sequence and are based on encoding techniques to achieve smaller length and concrete format.

What types of fragments do you support

We currently support tRNA fragments (tRF), isomiRs, miRNAs, and isomiRs or miRNAs with SNPs (iso), and rRNA fragments (rRF). However, any sequence given will be converted to its license plate and, if unknown will be marked as, nlr (not reported in literature).

Fragment TypeAssembly and Molecule Origin
tRFGRCh37, GtRNAdb, and MINTmap
rRFGRCh38 and rRNA from NCBI
isomiRmiRCarta, miRBase, COSMIC, dbSNP, gnomAD, and isomiRMap

Why do some license plates have two types?

Some fragments are identified as potentially belonging to multiple types that we support. In that case, mulriple types (or prefixes) are assigned to them

Can I use them locally?

Yes, python code is provided here.
