For Master’s and PhD students who want to study Computational Medicine

The Computational Medicine Center

Do you want to study Computational Medicine? Join us at Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) and find out more below about our research and the Thomas Jefferson University courses we are offering that will put you on a path to a Master’s or PhD degree with emphasis on Computational Medicine!

The Computational Medicine Center (CMC) at TJU has been breaking new ground, since 2010, by leveraging the power of “big data”. Our discoveries include: the identification of several previously unsuspected types of short RNA regulators; the demonstration that many of these regulators have tissue-specific expression; the elucidation of the molecules’ function through systems-level analyses; the finding that personal attributes such as sex, ancestry and age modulate the production of these regulators; and other. We also pioneered the design of special-purpose tools without which none of these developments would have been possible.

You can read more about our research in our research highlights and view several videos that describe our lab and our work!

CMC is currently accepting Graduate Students for Fall ’22 and Internships / Summer Students.

Computational Medicine Focus

Our graduate students can be enrolled in one of the several programs we offer. Through these programs, Master’s and PhD students can take courses with an emphasis on “Computational Medicine”.

Courses

Our courses span a wide range of topics: from introduction to programming to advanced techniques for analyzing big datasets. You can find more about these courses here.

How to Apply

Apply to Jefferson’s College of Life Sciences. Current programs include: Biochemistry & Molecular Pharmacology, Cell Biology & Regenerative Medicine, Genetics, Genomics & Cancer Biology, Immunology & Microbial Pathogenesis, Integrative Physiology, and Neuroscience. Once accepted to a program, you can contact us to arrange your lab rotation. We always welcome new students who are interested in studying Computational Medicine and are passionate about Big Data and Precision Medicine.

Prerequisites

The prerequisites for applying to our center are the same as for the college for life sciences.
